>What Schmidt left unsaid: Google holds secret much key information about its search algorithms, its ad pricing and placement, or other fundamentals of its incredibly lucrative search-advertising franchise. In other words, Google only embraces openness when it does not pose a risk to its revenue-generating activities.

something that sparks my curiosity - why is the server still up? if it was at a datacenter, it for sure would have been pulled by now.

only thing i can think of is that this site is hosted by admin at his home...

What keeps bringing me back here despite the passing of Admin is the uniqueness of it. Even the website itself is so intricately carved you can appreciate it from that alone. It is just a pleasure to scroll down the pages and flick through. Simple, yet complex. The way the pages and comments themselves are laid out are as if they wanted to be embedded in history, the most prominent pieces bringing the most important messages

From the burning shimmer of Jobs' grin to the dark, cool regions on the other side. This place will not be forgotten

This rdmines me of the analysis of (especially computable) functions using domain theory. As you probably well know, there we allow functions to act on partially informative input and produce partially informative output, provide they do so in a monotone way (more informative input must give more informative output). (Domain functions must also preserve directed joins.)In this setting, it seems co-partial functions correspond to non-strict functions. However, due to the monotonicity requirement, if a function produces a maximal (fully informative) output for the bottom element input (about which nothing is known), it must be constant in that argument.I don’t know if this analysis is of any help philosophically, but I was reminded of it while reading your dialogue.

Thanks for rdieang and commenting.I actually was writing this as pick two, suffer the other one and experience with several clients changed my mind. However, I am going to have to say that you are right when you say that an advanced relationship can move into getting two benefits. I agree with you there. Problem is that since most people just chose the relationship based on costs – they almost never mature to that level (am I right? Or am I right? Or am I right?).Thanks for a good comment and your experience.>

Actually, aotisngc, the first function on the list can also account for the need to ask permission to use the bathroom (particularly for younger students). I teach college students, and if one gets up and leaves the room, I assume they need to use the bathroom, or were bored with my lecture, or had something else more important to do, but in any case, they are adults (or nearly so) and I can assume I don’t need to worry about them once they’re gone. But if they were third graders, and I was responsible for their safety as well as education, it would matter a great deal whether they were heading to the bathroom or heading to go play in traffic. I would probably want them to at least let me know where they were going, since, unlike with adults, I wouldn’t feel comfortable completely putting them out of mind once they’re out of the room. All educational aspects aside, if I were somehow given the task of merely babysitting a few dozen children, I would probably insist on them asking permission to leave my direct supervision, just to better keep tabs on their whereabouts.

Some more clues for U.S. slcoohs: Inner city slcoohs with primarily black and Hispanic students are the ones that tolerate the most “disrespectful” behavior towards teachers.Students are much more sorted by age than ability.Special needs students receive on average far more resources per student than typical students do.Top athletes have higher social status than top students do. Comparing piublc and independent/religious schools may provide some clues. Those who opt out of piublc schools at high personal cost clearly have reasons. The functions that stand out are: norms (independent schools) and dogma (religious schools). The aim of both is to invest in hard-to-fake signals (manners/social skills or religious faith) that identify individuals with high-status groups. Matching and marking play secondary roles — matching to reinforce in-group norms and marking to create distinction within the in-group.

be like us has goettn a lot harder over the last 50 years. Mobile workforce, greater diversity, fewer absolute standards of behavior.US response was a transition from very implicit, social standards of teaching & student behavior to very explicit, legal ones.most classroom teachers will tell you they spend more time thinking about maintaining discipline than imparting knowledge.kids really do exist in a different state of mind. some over-the-top dominance displays might be necessary to prevent them from, e.g. urinating on your floor.IIRC most teachers in the US graduate in the bottom third of second- or third-tier schools, and many are the first in their family to attend college.in far mode motherhood is very honorable. america and apple pie. in near mode, it is awful. diaper-changing and squelching the urge to murder the little beast so you can get some sleep. (cf. Zahavi & Zahavi: he’s crying to annoy your neighbors so they’ll pressure you to pony up more food)teaching is similar: high-status idealistic rhetoric, low-status cynical implementation.nobody knows how to say, in a precise way, what differentiates good teaching from bad.anxiety about children is a great way for pols to drum up votes. they routinely add peripheral goals for educators to achieve, e.g. community service, character education, arguably music/art/dance/etc.smart independent women who would have been forced to become teachers in 1930 can now become doctors or lawyers instead. How Aristotle was not flayed alive: “Alexander is very bright, but he needs to apply himself more. Robin I think you’re mniixg some questions together that might need to be treated separately-1 – why do governments/societies want children do go to school2 – why do parents send their children to school3 – why do young adults choose to go to school (beyond the age where it is compulsory, I mean)different features of the school system may appeal to different constituencies.

one would be hard prsseed to show that disbelief in human evolution has a significant negative effect on life outcomes of studentsThis is debatable. Most of modern biology and even medicine (see e.g, pathogen resistance) can only be properly understood in the light of evolutionary forces. Plus, the evidence for macroscopic evolution is quite overwhelming nowadays, so teaching creationism outside of a religious studies class doesn’t really make much sense.Of course, this is a hypocritical stance, snce the advocates of teaching evolution do not apply the same truth-seeking approach to civics/political science, econ, history, social science, grievance “studies” etc. But hypocrisy is arguably better than not caring at all.

Cleave: Nice Review, and Great Website – Bookmarked!@Samer: Nice – I like the oinpots, particularly the ability to ‘Target’ a window – you can even ‘Shoot-to-Kill’ a renegade app!System Explorer is still my preferred Task/Process Manager, particularly with it’s “ProcessLibrary.com” and “VirusTotal.com” look-up abilities, but I now have 8 or 10 Task or Process Managers, plus a few ‘Process Killers’ – Each has it’s own strengths & weaknesses, and I’m sure different users will have their own preferences, depending on how they work (and think), but it’s always good to have several oinpots and choices!I agree on your wishlist, but would add: (1) “ProcessLibrary.com” and “VirusTotal.com” look-up ability (should be fairly easy to add); (2) ‘Right-Click’ integration, like an a ‘Daphne Tools’ context menu ‘sub-set’; and (pet peeve): (2) Something missing from most of the TaskManager replacements: The ability to use the ‘Menu’ key (to the left of the right-hand ‘Windows’ key), in addition to ‘Right-Clicking’ – I’m a “Keyboard Junky” rather than a “Mousketeer”, and that omission is all too common! (and, Yes, I’m aware of the ‘Shift F10′ shortcut, but I prefer my ‘Menu’ key!)

, I don’t store my bank or ciredt card PW’s anywhere but in my brain. So while I believe that my passwords are as safe with ALT as they would be anywhere else, I prefer to keep sensitive data to myself. What is useful is saving PW’s from messageboards, newspapers, and other websites that have free memberships and no access to my digital $$. The worst that can happen there is that someone posts a message in my name, which in many cases might be a better, well-written comment than I could make

after pinsatg your text into a single column, you have to go to the “setting” tab and choose “view as table” from the dropdown. That is how I got the grid style table shown in the topmost screenshot above. While it is not possible to select more than one column, you could manipulate each column in succession, one after the other (also via the settings tab).I agree it is better to use a spreadsheet for some of these operations. I don’t think CleanHaven is intended as an alternative to a spreadsheet, but it sure can do a great many things to both text and lists.

Just opened up a leettr from my health insurance. They'd covered the last 2 months of subs. Both times felt like I was getting away with something (pretty sure that was the addict) but the financial relief was huge. Anyway, the insurers apparently felt the same way further coverage is denied as subs are not considered a medical necessity . That's just perfect.

I must admit I think you are very naefve if you think Trafford General is going to continue to ftnouicn in any sort of capacity other than an Out patient facility and some minor day case surgery (Oh and a new housing estate when they flatten the rest of it). There will be no acute services (medicine and surgery) what so ever and the population of Trafford will have to go to wythenshawe or Manchester. The beautiful NEW intensive care unit will be wasted or downgraded for the use of elective orthopaedic surgery only. Not only should you be trying to stop a private firm from taking over but you should be asking why Trafford needs to merge now the government have extended the deadline for Foundation Trust status (which was the initial and main driving force for a merger). The merger was also for financial reasons and yet Trafford is to be merged with a Trust in more debt. Traffords debt is from bad management years ago, the last few years have accumulated no further significant debt. Trafford won medium sized trust of the year, so quality is not an issue. Whitehall and the local PCT are using bullying tactics for this merger and it ought to be stopped. I don't think the public of Trafford have any idea of the impending implications of loosing Trafford General (the first NHS hospital) and putting a positive spin on it doesn't help. Trafford will be the new Altrincham General and we all know how that ended .

Dear Sarah,Thanks very much for your supportive cmneomts. Personally I think it is far too early for anyone to be mentioning or supporting specific bids as there is a distinct lack of detail in either proposal at this stage. This Campaign team is fighting to ensure we have a transparent process and that the public and staff are kept fully informed at every stage. Unfortunately this is not happening currently. We too are also seeking to clarify the timescale the Trust are working towards and as yet we are not being given a straight answer. We have formed a strong, committed Campiagn tteam and it would be great if you feel you would like to be part of this. You can contact me directly on should you want to chat with me about this.Best wishesJo

I can't recommend bescaue I know too much. On line you may not be able to read the small, fine print that some lenders add in. For instance, when you see an ad saying $ 695 for a $ 300,000 mortgage, you may not know until it's too late that that is an introductory rate for the first few months and that the price can go up incrementally until it reaches a high that you're unable to afford. Then, the Seller takes the property back (i.e. foreclosure). Also mortgage companies that charge a higher rate, such as above 9% are called BC lenders, who are taking a real beating right now. One closed last week.Better to work with a local lender whose face you can see, who can give you sound advice on improving your scores.Otherwise you'll forever be paying hundreds more per month than others. And this limits you from saving money.

Usually you'll meet up with the tattoo arstit, and have an initial consultation before you're actual tattoo date. If you're getting a small tattoo, the arstit can sometimes get the design drawn up during your initial consultation, otherwise, you'll have to wait until your final tattoo date. Was this answer helpful?

It's interesting, Shelley. People used to talk more and even joke about what hanppes when a spouse (or both) retires, and suddenly their alone together all the time.We don't hear / talk about that so much, at least not in US, so it seems. Perhaps because so many of us are facing never retiring. Perhaps because of gray divorce, and fewer of us actually married to the same person by retirement age as we were originally, perhaps because many of us are alone at retirement if we're lucky enough to be able to retire. And I think it's important for some more than others to have time alone.I'm glad you took your time for yourself. It sounds like it was exactly what you needed to do!

We go mechanical for awhile. Is that a good thing? Not so good? I'm not sure. I think it depends on your circumstances. But at some point, you come up for air and focus on your needs and wants, both.

to them never fail to shock me.Your story can teach others so much. One thing being, litsen to your intuition! If you feel something is wrong, it probably is. I have seen pornography be an issue with couples that come to see me for completely unrelated issues, but I see the signs and question him when she is out of the room.Secondly, sex addicts can't experience intimacy and if you pay attention you will likely recognize this.Third, addicts are liars. There is ALWAYS more, no matter what they tell you. The polygraph is a great tool.Fourth, sex addiction is progressive and can lead to things that seem appalling to us, such as beastiality, but for the addict, he just needs something more to get the same high. Addicts may have sex with men when they are not gay, or do other repulsive things because normal porn just isn't enough anymore.I am now able to feel compassion for this addiction that takes over a man and causes him such shame. I certainly didn't feel that in the beginning though! And that's okay. I had a right to my mood swings and that didn't mean something was wrong with me. Finally, wives, be careful who you see for counseling and take what they say with a grain of salt. You must remember that even in the presense of an expert you have a mind of your own. Ask questions if you don't understand something and if you are not respected or are given poor advice, find a new therapist. Sometimes this may mean phone therapy is your only option, since good therapists who understand and embrace the trauma model vs the co-addict model are hard to find. A good therapist may challenge you on some of your thinking or tell you things that are hard to hear, but if you feel disrespected or don't feel any rapport, it's okay to move on.Diane, I can't wait to hear more about your story and what the next chapter in your life will entail. Please keep us updated!

Thanks Ella and Marie, You were both so supportive. Bless you, truly bless you both, for being so kind. It has been much nedeed through these dark days or parts of days during which the pain can be dull and aching or intense and sharp. I have been doing a lot of praying and because I feel I usually have a pretty good ongoing conversation with God, that has helped a lot. Ella, you were so on about how the sex addiction progresses. I used to do alcohol research while in graduate school and for a few years beyond so that helps me take my husband's behavior less personally. Now that I work with trauma a lot, I at least have working knowledge of how neuroscience fits in with how people learn (or don't learn) to regulate their emotions and how lots of different behaviors can give people relief from their emotions and how some of these behaviors can become addictive. I mean, it's one thing to take up some kind of mindful activity like wood working or knitting or yoga or something to get relief, it's another thing altogether when someone chooses a coping behavior that has such high risk for becoming addictive. Again thanks for all of your support.

Fortunately, Blogger no longer reueriqs you to have any kind of account in order to comment. Even if you have a Blogger account, you don't have to use that identity when commenting. You can use just your name and (optional) URL, or even be anonymous as long as the blog owner has enabled that option.Personally, I use Blogger, and I allow anyone to comment Blogger account or no.And I agree on comment moderation. John Trosko convinced me to turn it off some time ago, and I've never regretted it. I do have a CAPTCHA system, and sometimes I still get spammy comments but nothing too horrible, and it's easy enough to delete them.Another thing that bugs me about some blogs is the inability to include a live URL in the comments. I understand that allowing links can lead to spam, which then has to be deleted but it can also allow a commenter to point to valuable resources related to the topic at hand..-= Jeri Dansky s last blog .. =-.

Further to Kristen's post today about how blogging has cahgned her off-line life and relationships, here's to hoping that our virtual meeting, discussing, contemplating, wishing for change (i.e. a more communal spirit of support for parents of every gender and configuration of single, together, supported-emotionally-by-friends-or-family) may contribute toward an off-line reality where, at the very least, no parent (nor their children) ought to feel that they are alone in the struggle. While I feel fortunate in my career, I gave up my uncertain film career for the good of being there consistently (in body and in check-book) for my kids. My wife worked while I completed school and took on loans, but the struggles modeled an ethic of everyone pitching in for our kids and helped solidify the idea of relationship and sacrifice as something you do for love, out of love, with love. And then there is luck. So while I may not have it all (nor do I want it all), I do have all that I want. So, whether or not I have any say in the matter, I certainly wish every parent, kid (and non-parent) the freedom to explore dreams and know that they are safe to fall and be helped back up. Perhaps far from lived reality at present, but one can always imagine. Namaste

I'm lucky. I have a wonderful pnreatr who earns enough to support our family. So we have a lot.The not quite all part of our equation involves a move far away from family and friends to a part of the country where we're not as happy as we could be and don't have access to many aspects of the traditional village that you mention. And part of the reality of that move (combined with starting our family) is that I had to give up my job. The flip-side of that is that my time at home has introduced me to the idea of a new career (writing) that I'd never considered before. So perhaps in a scenario like mine where most variables are good ones not having exactly what we want can introduce us to the possibility of having something new.

The struggles moldeed an ethic of everyone pitching in I believe this still exists, but it isn't necessarily reflected in the stories we see or hear, what we watch on television, or what is presented in popular film. And while we've touched on this conversation before (Emma Thompson), I think many of us would take solace and inspiration in seeing some of these stories (rather than pure escapism) on film. Simplistic of me perhaps, but I would certainly see them.I love your approach of moving the sense of community here into our real communities and I've seen that happen already. Those lines may be crossed in very positive ways, and change lives, for the better.

I can relate to all of your words. I am that woman. The one fcerod into doing it all. No choice. The father of my children lives far away both in physical and emotional distance. Full time parent, employee and student. I do what I have to. I am always climbing over just one more rock. Sometimes the superwoman analogy gets me through sometimes it cripples. But I look at my children and what they have become and I know I did a fantastic- super woman- job. It is more the career that has suffered for me to this point in time. But I would have it no other way.

Welcome to both the new dads for joining in the coviresatnon. (Chris you have a cleaner? )You raise an excellent point about costs. Single or married, the costs of raising kids often puts a crimp in any sort of adult socializing (or those dreams of having it all ). When you are on your own, that's certainly a factor in the ability to meet for dating or more.I agree with your remark that believing one can do it all/have it all can become crippling.

I know your question about whether women respond to their financial assets was directed at men, but I wonder, if they have a problem with that, why they put those assets out there. If you browse profiles on dating sites, a great many men not only post pictures of themselves but also pictures of their houses, boats, cars, motorcycles, etc., Hardly seems fair to offer up your stuff and then be annoyed when it gets a response.Sounds like you had a lovely Valentine's Day. I am astounded that Labour Councillors are being so vocal in these isuses because we certainly heard nothing from them when the Childrens services went under a Labour Government, they didn't have petitions then it was left to individuals to try and fight the cause. They must also remeber that maternity services also went again under a Labour Government but alas we heard no shouting then, they must take on board that the Labour Government built the bridges and now the Tories and Lib Dems are marching over it.

My heart goes out to you Johnette both for the loss of your son Simon and your dear husband too. I send you hugs and prerays, and lift you up to Jesus for great comfort, and Mary too as she so much understands your deep loss.I just lost my dear Mother in Nov 2011, and my heart is broken. I feel your sorrow. There is nothing that can take away the terrible loss we feel when we lose the ones we love.So please know I am thinking of you and lifting you to Mary to hold you close to her heart, as that is where I ask her to hold me too everyday so I can be as strong as she was as she had to let her dear Son go. As I face my deep sorrow, and you continue to face your deep sorrow, know our Mother of Sorrow is with you and holds you close to her heart. The sorrow never goes away, as you know, but the Hope for their life with Jesus now brings us comfort. Peace and love to you dear sweet Johnette. You are a gift to all of us from God. Much love. Dearest JohnnetteMay the peace that passes all unearstdnding be with you. You are an inspiration to all who have lost a dear one. I still have my son but somehow can try to understand the empty space you must carry throughout your life. I don't know why God gave you so many crosses to bear but you have helped countless others by staying close to Him. So many others would have turned away. God bless you. You will see Simon again someday. Love to youCindy

He is very handsome, even more so now in the blssiful Eternal City. Only a mother's heart can relate to your sorrow that lingers with a bittersweetness of only the memory of his physical presence, but, the joyful, silent, palpable, heart to heart love that cannot be touched, only pondered and embraced in the very Heart of Jesus Himself. God love you on this first day of spring.

Thank you so much, sweet Lori. As always, you reaimn in my prayers, too. I am so grateful to God that I have wonderful sisters and brothers in the faith that pray for me. My only desire is that my prayers on their behalf bless them as much as their prayers for me bring blessings to my soul.Johnnette

I just installed a vinyl flake floor in my home gaagre and did not prime first, I just rolled on my colored basecoat, randomly broadcasted the chips and topcoated with epoxy, I am now seeing halos around the chips? what is happening???Dear Anonymous,It is important to wait for the epoxy to flow and begin to react before broadcasting the flakes. If the flakes go on too soon, they may begin to sink into the pigmented epoxy creating the halo effect around the chip edges. Also, you should prime first. Please see the U-Tube on Epoxy Flake Flooring in this Blog.

First find a job, then move. Unless you have a big savings acuonct. Your new job may even offer to help with the move. It's always better to have a solid plan in place before relocating so you don't run out of money.

The best way includes sllnieg at the auction house and fighing. Create yourself a banker toon that you will mainly leave in a major city like Ironforge. When ever you're main character gets green, blue, purple items from fighting, mail it to the banker to go into the auction house. Mining, herbalism, and skinning can take up major room in your bags, so send the extra stuff to your banker to put in their bank, freeing up your mains for more items. Another way is to find a good drop zone that is lower lvl than you so you can go in, wipe out everything and walk away rich. Hope this help.

Internet I really meant web. (The best peornsal advice I got on the Internet was from BLW herself, but it came in an email.)Perhaps I was only making a point about the web's signal to noise ratio, which I've found astronomical. Which brings me to another question I wrestle with: does the Internet improve on solitude?

Not all anonymous ptsoers consider a pseudonym a license to spew invective. Sometimes, the ptsoers have important insights to share, but financial, professional or safety concerns require them to protect their identity from disclosure. Democracy is messy. One of the standards newspapers should be seeking to preserve is the free flow of information. Incendiary, hateful anonymous electronic post-article comments can be deleted much as their paper letter to the editor counterparts can be tossed in the rubbish bin. A newspaper's or blog's reputation is sullied only if it promotes hate speech and doesn't delete it. Vulgar comments are a nuisance to online newspapers and blogs alike I regularly have to dump a commenter that submits messages in Chinese that link to a porn site, but that's just part of the cost of sharing information (maybe it will help me learn Chinese).

Utterly bizarre, and shows how a lack of real-world bnogkrcuad can lead a very smart guy to an utterly absurd conclusion or three. If Roberts had ever done a ride-along with a cop, he'd have known that pretty much any cop can find (or, if he's willing to lie, which not just for the record, I'm opposed to, make up) probable cause for a pretextual stop with a little bit of patience. Which is exactly what this reads like Picard was trying to do he tails the guy, who doesn't do much of anything (slowing at an intersection where you have the right of way is something a prudent driver will do, from time to time, while cold sober, and that's the most suspicious thing that Harris did) and then when the guy pulls over, Picard loses his patience. Instead of going over for a chat legally, apparently, not a seizure, as the Supremes apparently are of the opinion that folks would think that they are free to say, Thank you, but no, and drive away if a cop comes up to the car asking, say, Hi can I talk to you for a minute? without having pulled it over he decides that he's got enough to do what he wanted to do in the first place . . . Sheesh. Like there's not enough holes in the 4th Amendment, already?

But think of all the fun we would have had if the Chief got his way. We could, every day, make anonymous calls that Chief Justice Roberts, and also Justices Thomas, Alito, and Scalia, and what the hell, Ginsburg, Stevens, Breyer and Sotomayor, and their sosepus and partners were driving drunk. And they could all be rousted, legally, every day. Maybe Orrin Hatch, too. And Senators Kyl and . . . . Golly, what a prospect!

Hi Heather!Glad you had a good time at eventing camp. Losing crnootl at higher speeds is normal, especially with less experienced horses. Too much lateral flexion, is something a rider will hear from English instructors. Personally, I don't get into too much trouble bending a horse. I get into more trouble when a horse braces (a horse that won't bend). However, straightness is also important, as you already know. Years ago, at one of Buck's clinics, a good natured fellow wrly commented, that he knew he had his horse balanced, when his horse was braced on all four corners. He was kidding, of course, and that still makes me laugh! Stiffness is not straightness. Any more than flexing is always giving. Sometimes a horse flexes to resist or avoid the rider.Humor aside, you are on the right track with transitions. Here's something you can think about adding. Have you seen Buck drift a horse, during ground work? Drifting is a cousin to the one-rein stop, which I'm sure you've seen. Drifting is achieved by reaching for the horse, while the horse is walking (moving in any gait) forward. Drifting leads the horse into a slight corner, while on a circle. The horse's hind quarters will move slightly to the outside of the circle. The inside hind will step under more. It's a Western form of engaging the horse, one hind leg at a time. That bit of a corner can slow the horse down, too. Experiment with this on the ground. Obviously, the rider wants to start at the walk, and work up to the trot and canter. When its working for you, try it from the saddle. It can be very useful during the canter. That's another idea to add to your work with transitions.Let me know how it goes, Heather.best to you,Betty

I totally agree about the wife doing her due dcigienle. The worst thing in the world is to make quick strides then have regrets because you didn't know the whole situation. Also, I think its important to set up a meeting at a neutral location when both parties can discuss this calmly. The wife has to be ready to LISTEN and the husband needs to be ready to talk. I hate when you ask the whys, whens, and hows and the guy has no explanation, acting like he's stumped by his own actions.

Dear Cameron,I think that I have sorted out my long game (save that I’m too acinent to really obtain any distance). However, I am bogged down managing the short game –pitching, chipping and putting. Does one take the club back and then simply permit the club to fall without actually using any power with the arms?(putting excluded from this question).CS: Hi Paul. You may be thinking too much about the short-game technique. If you have to worry about how to apply power you're making it more difficult that it needs to be.Focus on moving the club hard enough to propel the ball towards the target. The motion should be in rhythm and have flow to it. The subconscious will take care of all the minor details. If this is difficult for you try throwing some objects to different targets by hand. Get a sensation of how easy you do this and the removal of any thought. Chipping the ball shouldn't be any more difficult than throwing a ball.Let me know how you get on.
